Thanksgiving Challenge

Okay, it's almost Thanksgiving so there are going to be lots of posts today asking what everyone is thankful for. Who am I to buck tradition? But I want to offer a little bit of a challenge.

First - my favorite Thanksgiving cartoon...

Hee hee hee.

Okay, the challenge. I want you to tell me three things you're thankful for, but they have to be specific. None of the usual "home, health, and family". Has to be more like: I'm thankful that we got the stupid leak fixed in the bathroom, that I didn't break my leg when I fell off the porch, and that Uncle Harry got out of County Lockup in time for the holiday.

And if you come up with your three specific "thankfuls", you can indulge in one "not so thankful for".

I'll go first.

Right after my second favorite Thanksgiving cartoon...

(Cracks me up!)

My turn - I'm thankful that Brandi's eye is healing nicely and she doesn't have to go back to the vet for two months,  that the place we're going for Thanksgiving is within driving range so I don't have to deal with a touchy feely pat down at the airport (now if they'd hire really hot guys to do these maybe it would be different), and that our hostess for Thanksgiving - a health food guru - isn't serving tofu turkey (I checked).

My "not so much"?  I'm not so thankful that they didn't believe me at work when I said I didn't want a retirement pary.  The boss announced yesterday they're having it the day before I leave.  Argh!

Okay.  Your turn.  Come on, join in.

And have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Countdown to retirement and writing full time: 11 work days to go.

I'm currently enjoying: Just finished LAST TO DIE by Kate Brady.

Groaner of the Day: What sound does a space turkey make?  Hubble, hubble, hubble.

(I know...really lame.  But you try to find a good turkey pun.)

Aw, enjoy the party. They want to send you off properly.

Okay, let's see.

I'm thankful for:

1. Iko is not embarrassing me as much as he used to at doggy school.

2. Greg will be able to spend at least Wednesday with me.

3. My new editor is amazingly sharp and eagle-eyed.

Not so thankful for...
hmm, there are several things I'm not happy about, but I've always felt even bad things have good reasons for being. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger--and if it does kill me, I don't have to worry about being unhappy. LOL.

Happy Thanksgiving, Linda!

Maria - Good ones. Although you wimped out on the "not so". {grin}

The problem with retirement parties at work is that part where everyone is supposed to offer up some story about the person who's leaving - but all the really good stories can only be told over drinks, far away from the office. So the whole thing ends up feeling forced and uncomfortable. But I do appreciate the sentiment. And, hey, there'll be cake.

I'm thankful that I the car didn't hit me as the idiot was chatting on the phone; I'm thankful that it's quiet here in the office and I can read my blogs; I'm thankful that my eyes have cleared up so that I can continue to do what I love and that is read.

I'm not so thankful that my weight loss has hit a plateau. After the holidays I'm going to tackle some changes.

Dru - I'm thankful that idiot on the phone didn't hit you, too! And, wow, you get to the office really early!

After the holidays we'll both be ramping up our weight loss efforts. Maybe we can be a mini support group.

Linda, let's do that. I found I lost more weight when I had a weight buddy.

You got it, Dru! Always works better for me, too.

I'm thankful for...

1) three new books on my nook that I plan to read this weekend.

2) no plans for Black Friday. No way, Jose!

3) not having to be in an airport security line today.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! :-)

Liz - I hear you on Black Friday. You couldn't pay me to be part of that chaos. New books and no shopping, sounds like a plan.

1. I'm thankful no one was hurt when Bobby's car was totalled.

2. I'm thankful that my boss doesn't mind when I take off work early to see something involving my kids.

3. I'm thankful the periodontist said he'd do the oral surgery for only what the insurance will pay so I have no out-of-pocket expense.

Not thankful for? That I never, EVER crave carrots or celery when I'm stressed or depressed. Always sweets.

DeAnne - thanks for commenting. And - yeah, why are all comfort foods the most fattening?

1. I am thankful I have been meeting my personal goals for winter break - exercising and writing every day! I even got off my butt and started my own blog AND got something written to read out loud at the WOWA Beatnik cafe at Books and Company next Wednesday.

2. I am thankful that we were not involved in any of the many car accidents we saw on the way to and from Kentucky today OR stuck in the high water the police marked off with their pretty flares.

3. I am thankful I got to spend most of today with YOU! :)

NOT SO THANKFUL for the cold rainy weather and the effect it is having on my knees - it is making them ache and hurt really bad!
