Memorial Day

You may have seen this quote before.

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to and including my life'."

On Memorial Day we honor those who paid that check in full.

Our local Boy Scout Troops place flags at the Veterans' Cemetary.

The graves of those who died for us.

While you're enjoying your holiday weekend, having a cook out or maybe heading for the pool, take a moment and give thanks.

I remember as a scout when I was a kid we'd place little flags at veteran's grave sites. What a great memory. Have a terrific holiday!

Hi Linda, I came here via your comment on Liz Fichera's blog. Absolutely love your starting quote to this post - so true! Best wishes with the transition, though I've had 3 books published I still find it hard to call myself a writer :-)

Stephen - The scout in the picture is my grandson. My own sons did the same thing when they were scouts. It's a good thing to remember.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.

Cheryl - Hi, thanks for coming by and for the good wishes. I hopped over to your blog and loved little Merrilyn. I'll be back to read more about your extended family.

Memorial Day and Veterans Day always choke me up. I may not agree with the reasons we go to war, but those honorable dmen and women who have served and are currently serving our country deserve every ounce of respect and thanks we can give.

Thanks for the reminder, Linda : )
